The computer graphics technique I was tryna get ya to answer is called ray tracing.
Jospehine Baker was the performer ’n’ civil rights hero who first made her name dancin’ at the Folies Bergère in Paris.
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
Like I mentioned yesterday, Josephine Baker was formally inducted into the Panthéon a couple years back, in 2021. The Panthéon’s this big fancy neoclassical buildin’—almost kinda like a secular church, ya could maybe describe it as?—located in the Latin Quarter in Paris.
In addition to havin’ lotsa famous French folks interred there, the Panthéon’s famous as the site of an installation first set up by what physicist? The original object’s been moved ’cross town to the Musée des Arts et Métiers, but ya can still see a replica at the Panthéon. An’ if youse guys can’t make it out to Paris, no problemo: there’re installations a’ these things at science museums all over the globe!
Trivia 2
Paris’s Latin Quarter also happens to be home to the Sorbonne, maybe ya heard a’ it?
Well, if I’m bein’ precise, the Latin Quarter’s actually home to the Sorbonnes, plural, since there ain’t really just one Sorbonne these days. Like, there IS a Sorbonne University ... but there’s also Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University ’n’ also Université Sorbonne Nouvelle.
This somewhat confusin’ situation arose a li’l while ago, back when the ol’ University of Paris—known as the Sorbonne, after a fella named Robert de Sorbon—got shut down for a hot second, then split up into 13 different universities. A couple a’ mergers happened between then ’n’ now so that there’re only 11 successor schools still around, but the point is remains: it’s all kinda confusin’!
The breakup a’ the original Sorbonne can be traced back to a spate a’ major student revolts ’n’ general civil unrest that occurred throughout France in May a’ what year? Things got bad enough that Mr. Charles du Gaulle actually skedaddled off to Baden-Baden in West Germany for a minute there, although I guess things kinda cooled off pretty quick after they had some snap parliamentary elections that the Gaullist party won handily.
OK then
