Hi Skeleton Crew,

Answers to Last Time
The French region I was askin’ ’bout was Picardy.
Dunkirk’s the harbor that was central to the 2017 movies Darkest Hour an’ ... well, Dunkirk.
Both a’ those answers hide the names a’ famous captains a’ the Federation starship Enterprise, namely Jean-Luc Picard(y) ’n’ James T. (Dun)Kirk.
The Picardy trivia played tough in particular, with lotsa folks guessin’ Brittany. Which is a good guess, seein’ as how Brittany’s in the north a’ France, plus it’s got a language named after it, i.e. Breton! So it makes a lotta sense!! But nah, the answer was Picardy, sorry gang.
Today’s Questions
Question 1
Like I said yesterday, Picardy is one a’ the langues d’oïl, a group a’ Romance languages includin’ standard French but also some neighborin’ dialects that exist on a kinda like I guess ya’d call it a continuum between French ’n’ other neighborin’ Romance languages. The name langues d’oïl comes from how ya say the word “yes” in those various languages. (Oui bein’ how ya’d spell oïl in standard French.)
The langues d’oïl can be contrasted with a certain Romance language ya’d find en Provence (an’ also the rest a’ southern France) (plus Monaco, parts a’ Italy, an’ also Catalonia). That particular language shares its name with what retailer that sells all sorts a’ fancy-pants luxury skin-care an’ perfumery products?
Question 2
Breton’s an interestin’ language, it’s actually part a’ the Celtic language family; matter a’ fact, it’s the only Celtic language still spoken on the European mainland!
The other survivin’ Celtic languages are:
Welsh
Irish
Scottish Gaelic1
Manx
an’ what language that hails from a region famous for its pasties ’n’ game hens?
OK then
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
[(which don’t confuse it with Scots, a.k.a. Lowland Scots, which is Germanic not Celtic!)
