Mister Skeleton’s Trivia Zone: You definitely haven’t seen these themes before™
Hi Skeleton Crew,
Happy Tuesday—let’s get right to it!
Answers to Last Time
Civil War’s the movie at the toppa the box office right now, an’ also it was the subtitle a’ that Captain America movie that did so dang well back in 2016.
The trailer for that Abigail movie makes it was pretty clear she’s some kinda vampire, so even if ya didn’t see the movie, I kinda was hopin’ youse guys’d work out that it was a remake a’ Dracula’s Daughter.
Today’s Questions
Question 1
Did ya ever hear a’ that band The Civil Wars? They were like a folk duo for a li’l while back in the ... oh, I dunno, the mid-aughts? Early ’teens? Somethin’ like that.
Anyway, I never really listened to ’em. But I DID just look ’em up on Wikipedia, an’ I thought it was kinda interestin’ that the two members a’ The Civil Wars are named Joy Williams an’ John Paul White.
“But Mister S,” I hear ya askin’ me, “what’s so interestin’ about that?” Well, not much ... other than that Joy Williams is the name a’ ONE A’ MY FAVORITE AUTHORS EVER!!1
Now, lemme be clear here: these are different Joy Williamses. The only connection here is they got the same name. But if ya’ve been reading the Trivia Zone for any amount a’ time, then by this point ya know that’s connection enough to serve as fodder for some sweet, sweet Skeleton Trivias.
BUT SO ANYWAY
Recently Ms. Joy Williams wrote this book called Harrow. I still ain’t read it, but it’s definitely on my list! It even won an award in 2021, a prize awarded by what book review magazine that’s known for its editors givin’ out a coveted Star to books they particularly like?
Question 2
I was lookin’ for folks named John White to write a question about—in order to, y’know, kinda round out today’s “people who have a name that’s the same as one a’ the musicians in defunct folk duo The Civil Wars” trivias.2
Well, after reflectin’ on it for a sec, I remembered this one English fella I met back in the day—this was way back in the 1500s—who was I guess ya could call him a “gentleman artist”. Also, he was a pal to one Sir Walter Raleigh—which is how Mr. White ended up governor for a colony that they tried to set up in 1587 on what island in what’s present-day North Carolina? The colony was mysteeeeeriously disappeared by the time folks went back to check it out a few years later in 1590, maybe ya heard about it when that happened?
OK then
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Or at least she’s the author a’ this one book, Breaking and Entering, that I like a lot. Ya should check it out if ya like weird books.
Say what ya will ’bout the trivia themes here at Mister Skeleton’s Trivia Zone, but ya can’t say they’re not unique!!
