There’s talks a’ puttin’ a Vatican-style microstate for the Bektashi Order in the middle a’ Tirana, the capital a’ Albania.
If there’s one Persian poet ya gotta know, it’s Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī a.k.a. Rumi. (Though I guess also Omar Khayyam’s pretty important too.) (Oh, ’n’ don’t forget Hafez!) (OK, OK, so I guess there are a lotta Persian poets to know. But Rumi’s the only one who wrote the Masnavi.)
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
What first name—properly it’s a nickname, I guess—is shared both by a titular Henrik Ibsen heronie ’n’ a Golden-Age-a’-Hollywood–era gossip columnist who was the arch-rival a’ Louella Parsons? (The latter lady’s real name was actually Elda Furry, but everyone knew her by her pen name, so that’s what I’m askin’ for.)
Incidentally, the Ibsen play’s bein’ adapted into an upcomin’ movie starrin’ Tessa Thompson, which sounds pretty cool! I hope it’s good!
Trivia 2
What word got its modern meanin’ thanks to one Mr. Robert Baden-Powell, who used it to describe a big shindig he organized in 1920? The word basically means “a large gathering or get-together”, which makes it the perfect subtitle for the new Mario Party game that’s comin’ out this month.
Anyways, the word’s origin’s pretty nebulous: accordin’ to Wikipedia, some folks think it maybe came from the Swahili word for “hello” since Mr. Baden-Powell spent some time there in the 1880s ’n’ ’90s?1 Other folks think it word came from New York slang, or maybe even they trace it back to Irish? I dunno, youse guys. My guess is the word’s connected to the name a’ the deeelicious rice stew I get at Dooky Chase’s whenever I’m down visitin’ NOLA.
OK then
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I’m, uh ... pretty sure that ain’t right, ’cause I definitely heard the word gettin’ used earlier ’n that.
