Cheri Oteri was an SNL cast member back in the late 90s. She also has the honor of showin’ up more in crossword puzzles than, ah, her relative level a’ fame really warrants. (I ain’t tryin’ to disparage Ms. Oteri here! I just think it’s probably kinda true!!)
Anyways, SNL watchers might remember Ms. Oteri ’n’ Mr. Will Ferrell playin’ a pair a’ cheerleaders as a recurrin’ sketch. Their shtick was that they didn’t actually make the East Lake High School cheerleadin’ squad, but they kept showin’ up to all the games anyway.
In those sketches, what was the name a’ the East Lake High School’s sports team? If the sketches had been set a few millenniums earlier, they’d be called the Lacedaemonians ... but even though SNL has been around for a while, it ain’t been around quite that long.
