Hi Skeleton Crew,
Welcome to May! Looks like I’m kickin‘ things off a day later ’n expected? I guess I was just enjoyin’ my week off so dang much, I forgot what day it was!!
Anyways, first things first, let’s take a look-see at last month’s leaderboard to see how things shook out.
First mates (a.k.a. Starbuck tier, 60+ points)
revdrj (64)
ACH (60)
Second mates (a.k.a. Stubb tier, 50–59 points)
Rarebitfiend (53)
LoboWins (52)
Jay Ess (51)
Third mates (a.k.a. Flask tier, 40–49 points)
Tannhauser (49)
MRS (49)
a10mic (49)
DaveM (43)
alliaphage (42)
Looks like we got ourselves two first mates this month! I guess that poses a sorta conundrum if (god forbid!) we ever run into a question ’bout the chain-a’-command here on the S.S. Mister Skeleton’s Trivia Zone.1
Anyways, congrats to all the mates! An’ thanks EVERYONE for playin’!! This newsletter would be a heckuva lot less fun to do without youse guys.
Answers to Last Time
Those funny things fancy folks wear on their shoes are called spats, an’ they share a name with the settled larvae a’ oysters.
Ms. M.F.K. Fisher’s book How to Cook a Wolf ain’t literally ’bout how to cook wolfs, but instead it’s a I guess ya’d call it an allegorical reference to the “big bad wolf” a’ fairy tales.
Today’s Questions
Question 1
I traveled last week, an’ part a’ the reason I missed yesterday’s email was that I was recoverin’ from a li’l jet lag there. Matter a’ fact, I was off in New York City. Gotta love that town!
Now, I been to the Big Apple a couple a’ times before, so this time I eschewed some a’ the more usual tourist spots—e.g., Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State where Dylan lived—an’ instead I took the 7 train out to Queens to check out what park that was the site a’ both the ’39 AND ’64 World’s Fairs? (Not to mention the climactic finale a’ that cinematic classic, Men in Black.)
Question 2
What character was introduced in Season 1, Episode 9 a’ the teevee series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys? She was originally slated to get killed off a few episodes later, but the plan changed when it turned out critics ’n’ audiences really liked the character—so instead, she got her own spin-off series!
OK then

Which is to say, what happens if the cap’n (i.e., yours truly) is outta commission—y’know, for reasons a’ incapacitation ... or worse?? It’s somethin’ I think ’bout sometimes; after all, I’m a regular person, I gotta worry ’bout the inescapable cold grip a’ death just the same as youse an’ the next guy! I mean, ha ha, it ain’t like I once tricked a wrathful deity back in the misty ages before human memory, a prank gone horribly awry, resultin’ in me bein’ condemned to live out the rest a’ eternity in this curséd skeletal form. Ha ha, nah, that’d be bonkers!!!
