Isn’t a wedge basically just a portable inclined plane? That’s always bugged me
Hiya Skeleton Crew,
Let’s take a peek an’ see who got to be last month’s MAYteys! Get it? MAY-teys? ’Cause it was May last month?
Starbuck tier (a.k.a. First mates, 50+ points)
revdrj (60)
Rarebitfiend (56)
MRS (51)
ACH (50)
Stubb tier (a.k.a. Second mates, 40–49 points)
alliaphage (42)
petesmithphd (41)
Flask tier (a.k.a. Third mates, 30–39 points)
Tannhäuser (38)
Jay Ess (37)
a10mic (36)
Now, maybe ya noticed that the point-scores for all the tiers are a bit smaller than they’ve historically been. That’s ’cause May was the first month where I’ve been tryin’ out this new four-emails-for-everyone-plus-one-paywalled-email-every-week system. That means there’re fewer points on offer for youse guys to pick up, so I figured I’d lower the thresholds a bit to keep things fair.
(Incidentally, if ya DO wanna get access to those sweet paywalled emails, just click this here button:

OK, here’s the huzzah for the mateys!
Answers to Last Time
Block is the company that runs the Cash App ’n’ that TIDAL streamin’ service. They used to be Square, but I guess they upgraded their name to sound more crypto-y? ’Cause a’ blockchains ’n’ stuff, I guess? Who knows!
A horse-collar or spear tackle is a football no-no, an’ Ray Lewis has the most recorded tackles in a career for any NFL player.
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
Last week’s themie answers were block ’n’ tackle, which are mechanical doodads ya can combine to create a pulley system that’ll do stuff for you. The pulley is one a’ the six so-called “simple machines” that are like the buildin’ blocks that make up all the complicated machines in the world.1
Here are five a’ the six simple machines:
the pulley
the lever
the wheel
the inclined plane
the wedge
What’s the remainin’ one? Its purpose is to turn a rotational force into a linear one, an’ in my recollection it was the last a’ the simple machines that folks figured out how to make. My ol’ pal Archimedes was a big fan a’ this one!
Trivia 2
Crypto! That’s a thing, right??
Lemme see if I can ask ya somethin’ ’bout crypto. There’s gotta be somethin’ interestin’...
...
uff da
I’m on a website that’s showin’ me the latest in the cryptos, an’ in the “Trending” category there’s somethin’ called BEER2—I guess it stands for Beercoin 2?—plus there’s another one called Fartcoin. Are people for serious with this stuff?? Ah jeez.
OK, well, I guess on the more sober-minded side a’ the spectrum ... can ya tell me what token (abbreviated USDT) is currently number three on coinmarketcap.com’s list a’ cryptocurrencies with the highest market caps? Unlike most a’ the other tokens near the top a’ the list, this one’s a so-called “stablecoin”, which means it’s value’s (supposed to be) tied to a specific reference asset—in this case, the US dollar.
OK then
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Or at least that’s how they felt about it in classical times. I guess now there are all sorts a’ modern-day gizmos that kinda make this picture obsolete.
