Munching on a baguette while playing some solitaire? Sounds brilliant to me!
Hiya Skeleton Crew,
I never really followed up with youse guys on my coffee with Bast last week, ’cause it was ... well, it was kinda a disaster!!!!
The night before, I came down with some sorta virus. But I went to bed optimistic, thinkin’ to myself, “ah jeez, it’s probably nothin’!” But nah, it sure was somethin’ all right! I wake up the next day feelin’ just AWFUL. I’m talkin’ like the worst ostealgia that I can remember feelin’ since probably the Plague of Justinian!!
But so I wasn’t gonna miss coffee with ol’ Bastie. So I drag my creaky bones outta bed ’n’ put some clothes on ’n’ somehow stumble my way to the coffee shop ’round the corner.
Well! Bast is there—she’s lookin’ great!—but she’s sittin’ next to a sorta familiar-seemin’ fair-haired fella who’s literally glowin’ with health ’n’ good looks ’n’ charm. It takes me a moment ... but finally I recognize the guy: he’s Baldur! Y’know, the son a’ Odin ’n’ Frigg!! From like from the Norse pantheon!!!
Ah jeez, I don’t even wanna think about it any more right now; I’ll save the rest a’ my story for tomorrow. Let’s just ... let’s just do some trivias now, okay?
Answers to Last Time
Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote in his poem “In Memoriam, A.H.H.” ’bout how it’s better to have loved ’n’ lost than never to’ve loved before;1 the “their’s but to do and die” line came from “The Charge of the Light Brigade”.
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood were the 19th century art bros who thought everything everyone did after Raphael was just a big stinkin’ mistake.
Today’s Trivias
Trivia 1
Who originated the role a’ Ruth Younger in A Raisin in the Sun? Some a’ her better-known screen roles include playin’ Mother Sister in Do the Right Thing an’ Mama Lucas in American Gangster. She died in 2014 an’ was interred at Ferncliff Cemetery in New York in the same urn as her husband, Ossie Davis. (Who’d died several years earlier, they didn’t like put him in an urn while he was still kickin’, that’d be BONKERS.)
Trivia 2
It’s a neighborhood in Singapore ’n’ also a suburb a’ Melbourne, but gamers of a certain age’ll recognize it best as a locale in Sonic the Hedgehog (specifically, the first Zone in Sonic 2). What’s this place name that sounds like it might be some kinda verdant Irish knoll, but apparently actually got its name from an unincorporated neighborhood in San Mateo county, just south a’ San Francisco?
OK then
